Yep already got it - it's called MS Word format and jsut about every word processing and other apps read/write it.

But no - it seems the very few who don't use Office want us all to change to something else. Then we'll see how well the format upgrades, when a committee is doing the deciding.

Oh and yes you have to have upgrades, unless you think a format will take care of everything now and in the future.
