Re: Dean couldn't be controlled
Dean got:

- $73,636 from Time Warner (media conglomerate)
- $45,425 from Microsoft
- $37,887 from IBM
- $24,130 from Citigroup (banking conglomerate)

-- source: April, 2004 issue of The Atlantic Monthly

These were among his top-10 donors. The rest were from a couple universities (University of California, and Harvard), from his own fund, and from a Vermont farming interest. Admittedly pretty modest as corporate donations go. The donations were relatively small, compared with the donations given to the other candidates. The only other candidates who got less "fat" donations were Al Sharpton and probably Dennis Kucinich. You make up your mind though whether Dean would've been controlled by corporate interests or not.

In contrast, Bush's top-10 are:

Enron - $602,625
MBNA - $597,041 (banking)
Merril Lynch - $564,404 (investment bank/brokerage)
PricewaterhouseCoopers - $485,448
Vinson & Elkins - $476,400
UBS AG - $474,300
Credit Suisse First Boston - $473,650 (investment bank)
Goldman Sachs Group - $409,449 (investment bank)
Bass Brothers Enterprises - $397,427
Ernst & Young - $384,154 (accounting firm)

John Kerry's top-10 are:

Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo - $232,736
FleetBoston Financial - $182,937
Time Warner - $145,435 (media conglomerate -- more than they gave Dean, incidently)
Hale and Dorr - $129,858
Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom - $125,550
Harvard University - $124,250 (also more than given to Dean)
Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos - $122,300
Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson & Hand/Piper Rudnick - $121,550
Citigroup - $116,656 (banking conglomerate -- also more than given to Dean)
Goldman Sachs Group - $110,660 (investment bank -- less than given to Bush)

-- source: again, from The Atlantic Monthly

Half of Kerry's top-10 list of donors is apparently, just a guess, made up of law firms.

At least half of Bush's top-10 list is made up of financial interests such as banks, investment banks, and an accounting firm.
