pretty good standard of living?!?!?!
?You are also wrong when you say about 1/3rd live in the most basic slums. Yes a lot of people live in poverty in India. But they don't live in slums. They just earn less compared to the Indian national average. They live in villages and are mainly into agriculture. There have pretty good living standards in India.?

An American reading this would believe that the lowest one third of wage earners live in something like a low rent suburb in Des Moines. If you?ve ever been to India, you know how untrue that is.

This from the Asia Times:

?A shanty-town collapse that killed scores of residents in the overcrowded industrial metropolis of Mumbai has exposed the lack of a policy to shelter tens of millions of poor urban Indians....

...Open sewers in the slums of Shakarpur in eastern Delhi were blamed for a rash of polio cases there last year.?

Better yet, hold your nose and take a look. Remember that without all these desperately poor people, India couldn?t offer such fantastically ?competitive? prices for its IT exports.
