Indian IT pros don't earn $45,000-$48,000 a year.
They earn around $4000 to $15000 a year.

But that is still a lot of money in India. With that kind on money, the indian IT pro can easily afford excellent living condition, electronics, automobiles..etc. This is because the cost of living in India is very less. House rent is India is about $50-$200 compared to $500-$1500 in the US.Actually the cost of living is exhorbitantly high in the United States. Especially Insurance and house rent when compared to the rest of the world.

You are also wrong when you say about 1/3rd live in the most basic slums. Yes a lot of people live in poverty in India. But they don't live in slums. They just earn less compared to the Indian national average. They live in villages and are mainly into agriculture. There have pretty good living standards in India.
