Will ya please just LISTEN to yourself?
This is what you get with closed source. With open source, the support
would continue. Now all the people with Win98 computers and applications, and no money for software and hardware upgrades are left out in the cold. What is more, the OS was never secure as known defects have been in the OS from the start, and MS has announced they will not be fixed.

Ok.. So exactly WHEN is it appropriate to cut off support? How long do you continue to coddle people by giving them support for an antiquated, unsecure operating system? You yourself make this big deal about how big a P.O.S. it is - so why should the users who're still using it keep on using it?

You can't have it both ways.

Look... Windows 98 was GREAT in it's day - 8 years ago. That was THEN and this is NOW. People back in that era were NOT worried about viruses and spyware. Spyware wasn't even on the radar. Phishing hadn't even been thought of.

So... How many more rewrites, updates and drivers need to be written, NEVER achieving the goal of having a completely secure OS before someone sticks a knife into 98's back and puts it to rest?

Get over it. Microsoft told everyone WHY those bugs will never be fixed. To do so would so fundamentally change the nature of Windows 98 that most applications, games and other programs would NO LONGER RUN. Of course, then you'd start your whine about how the programmers of those products aren't fixing all those broken apps to meet the standard that the new 98 Third Edition you seem to be whining for created.

Windows 98 is dead. It's over, done with. Stick a fork in it.
