Lotus Notes is not e-mail
Lotus Notes is an entire collaboration platform. We have a set of developers who write only to the Notes platform, and they very seldom do anything with e-mail except use it. If that side of things is slow it is because of all the sharing, sorting, and linking that goes on. Still, our experience (300 users) is the speed of e-mail processing is more than acceptable, on standard Wintel servers.

In the collaboration space, Outlook can't hold a candle to Notes, regardless of what Redmond tells you. The oft-delayed next version of Office may change that; we'll see. Regardless, buying Lotus Notes to do e-mail, only, is like buying a full-size SUV to deliver pizzas. -- Darrell
