re: not a problem...
>>All the more reason to use OpenOffice. The tighter Microsoft squeezes, the more people will want to escape. They can't seem to get that through their sleazy skulls though.<<

WRONG. People want only ONE thing out of their office suite. TO GET THE JOB DONE. Period. As long as the program has the formatting tools they need, most can care less about which program they're using as long as it produces the documents, spreadsheets, etc... they need.

>>Anyone with a decent thought process would come to the conclusion that OpenOffice is not a problem. It's Microsoft that is the problem. By making their information proprietary, they once again attempt to control what we can all do with our computers (use their monopoly to force use of Office software). NO software company should be allowed to do that.<<

And no one IS forcing anyone to use MS Office. MANY law firms STILL use WordPerfect Office for their legal correspondence. It's still an option. Last I checked, there was a Windows version of Open/StarOffice as well.

Secondly, It's not Microsoft's data, it's YOUR data. It's the FORMAT the data is stored in that's proprietary. If I use MS Word to write a book, the copyright does NOT belong to Bill Gates, it belongs to me.

Third, Microsoft Word offers the option of saving Word documents in a large number of formats - RTF, Word 2.0, Word 6.0, Word 97 - XP, WordPerfect 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2, plain text, HTML, etc... You can use save the data into ANY format you want. The same goes for spreadsheets, Access databases, and so on.

So where's the "big squeeze"? Your whole rant just got tossed out the window. Nice try. Come back when you have some facts, not a bunch of propaganda. Better yet, come back after you've had an office job for a while and have some real experience.
