I did a ftp install last night on my new Athlon64.

Still, I do have a purchased copy of 8.0, so if that isn't too old to qualify for the upgrade I might go with it. Because for one, the ftp version is usually released 6 to 8 weeks after the CD version. And also, I might be interested in some of the programs that are CD only because they are not free.

And yes, I know GNOME and KDE coexist peacefully and there is no industry default, that was never the question. By default, I meant the one that the installation program highlights by default, or in other words, the "preferred" windows manager (that's my label, not theirs). Because I know for a fact that KDE is as good as it is because SUSE has been instrumental in pushing its development along, and if they start preferring GNOME, then they may lose interest in KDE.
