Don't know where you guys have been hiding but the .doc, xls etc formats have always been proprietary. They are reverse engineered for compatibility.

..By making their information proprietary, they once again attempt to control what we can all do with our computers...

How does the .doc for example control how you use your computer? It's a word processing file, that's all.


..NO software company should be allowed to do that...

I hope you're talking about leveraging a monopoly and not using proprietary formats in general.

P.S. OpenOffice works fine on Windows.
