And I said ALL software, so I do not know what the number of admins for Linux or Windows has to with this issue.

The fact is that over the life of ANY product, the intial cost is often just the tip of the ice berg. This about a house or a car. They need power, break from time to time. This is simply a cost associated with the ownership of anything, which in many cases, far exceeds the inital cost of buying.
