Mass. is right, others should follow
It makes complete sense to use an ISO document standard for long term document stoarge and archiving. If an Office plug-in is developed that meets the ODF standard then that will be OK as well. What the shills tend to scream about is that their favourite Office product might get ditched.

From Massachusets (sp?) point of view, the office suite is irrelevant. They can't allow access to their documents to be dictated by an external business. Already some documents produced by early versions of Office are inaccessible through Office. If it has happened before then it will happen again. I wouldn't buy a car that only ran on Exxon's petrol - why should I store my documents in a format that the manufacturer can ditch at any time?

ODF promises long-term storage through ISO standards and that is the real goal we all need to be aiming at. I hope that Mass. has the sense to stick to its guns because it is doing the right thing.
