MS Tax
I purchased a computer for personal training purposes last summer from CompUSA. We did a modest little custom built PC, nothing bleeding edge. My goal was/is to run Linux and practice my UNIX skills, I also have an XP Pro box that works fine. I was forced to buy a copy of XP Home as part of the purchase price even though it was never loaded on the system. The guys at CompUSA said they were sorry but they have a contract with MS that requires bundling of OS with the PCs they sell and they could not delete the MS OS from the bill. Even though I have no use for XP home I still had to buy XP Home. This is why we need to regulate the MS monopoly -- I was forced to purchase a license for a product from a monopolist even though I had no use for the product and I have never loaded the OS on the PC in question. This, in a nutshell, is why I dislike the MS monopoly.

I have no problem with anyone who chooses to buy MS product if that is what they want. But why should I be forced by a vendor to purchase a product that I have no intent to use nor need to use? That is why I hope MN wins even though we all know that endusers will derive very little of value from the litigation directly. However, we will all benefit if this helps stop the practice of bundling products with a PC that consumers do not want. I would feel the same way if it was Sun or IBM doing this -- it is an abuse of the monopoly vendor.
