Free for customers OSS is must be (paid by the UN-like organization).
Nobody shall control vital software ? it shall belong to everybody.

If ALL the governments, instead of paying MS, will pay the UN-like organization for developing OSS = ALL their citizens will get free vital tools: OSes, word processors, browsers, mail programs, photo/video/audio editing software, etc.

MUST be a system that maintains competition/rotation.

Benefits:

Talented people we do not know will get well-paid jobs (many corporations want only sheep-like ?geniuses?, but real geniuses are not sheep), many additional jobs will be created (by saved on MS money), etc.

It also means higher quality software. Add here that instead of resources of ONLY one corporation ? resources of the whole World.

No pirating because there is nothing to pirate = there is nothing to hate = close to ZERO viruses/worms.

People will get more money (because they don?t have to pay for OSS) = they can buy more = boost for other businesses.

No monopoly = abuse of power = security (what is inside of your PC is yours = no UNRESTRICTED invasion in your personal files/programs ? la Gates).

If it would happen ? it means that governments started care about the people = government elected by the people, not corporations = no wars/terrorism made for business (e.g. no 9/11 or Israeli/Palestinian-like conflicts, no Anthrax letters by pharmaceutical companies).

Proprietary will exists but for special needs.

This is not socialism or communism ? this is COMMON SENSE.
