finacial guns...

are what's used not physical guns... here's how th eforced upgrade works. they make a new version of an app, it will save files that the older one can't read. they stop selling older versions of the app. anyone who needs to buy th eapp or a new computer, automatically gets the new version, now anyone who does business with them, also needs the upgrade. at first, the affect seems small, but sooner or later, it will snowball. soon it's either, upgrade or die (in a business sense).
this is of course a hypothetical situation... and i completly trust microsoft to ensure backward compatability, to let me keep my old apps, when the rest of the world has upgraded.
