that Sun ignore the huge installed base of Windows users? Can't you see that by developing applications that run on multiple platforms, Star can ultimately succeed in moving people away from Windows?
Windows users aren't married to MS per se. They are married to the applications that run on Windows, including MS Office. By providing a reliable, low-cost, compatible and powerful alternative to MS Office, they will remove one of the major obstacles to the migration away from Windows.
This is an extremely smart move on the part of Sun. It is a necessary step in making *nux a viable alternative (for the masses) to MS Windows on the desktop. And if it succeeds, it will force MS's hand in making their OS more secure and their software more affordable. This is a good thing for everyone, Linux, Unix, and MS users alike. - Posted by: vferrara Posted on: 03/16/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
