I pretty much agree, but why...
I agree with what you have said. My question is why do they need to download something to my machine? If they want to prevent people with pirated copies from enhansing their installation, why not run a utility from their end to verify authanticity at the time of download? Microsoft seems to have forgotten that they do not own my computer and should not be putting spyware on it, they are not paying for my internet connection and therefore do not have the right to "phone home" without my express permission each and every time the do it. By the way, don't throw the E
ULA at me either, those things are written to be incomprehensible to the layman. After the fourth page of Lawyerese, they could require you to convert to Druidism and most folks would agree.
