The whole point of me providing the background of my dislike for Microsoft is to illustrate that I am not a M$ zealot trying to support them, but rather even I, as a non-supporter, can validate their reason for this current movement.

Yes, they did "covertly" slip this spyware-like tool in by making it appear to be a high priority update. High priority updates are security and driver patches to protect against threats. Low-priority updates are not "forced" on to the machine and need to be selected by doing a custom Windows update via the website. Those would include things such as operating system enhancements, anti-spyware tool, and what WGA should be classified as.

Just because this was not covertly installed TO YOU does not mean that the average person takes the time to do auto-download custom installs on their unit so for many people it was basically installed without their knowing about it. When you post you need to think more globally. Not "what would Don do" or "how would Don think in this situation" but rather try to think what would anyone do from the IT God or Goddess down to the 80 year old grandparents that just bought their first computer from a pimply faced sales kid at Best Buy.
