Sorry you "hate Microsoft" but, well there it is. It probably can't be helped. But, be that as it may, if you hate them for their "shady business dealings" based on your complaint then you need to find another reason. They do not "covertly" install the tool. It is part of Windows Update and you can (as you can with other items delivered in that format accept or reject any item unless you have autodownload and autoinstall set. In which case every item is "covertly installed".

I am glad you agree, however, that they should be able to determine if Windows copies they are being asked to update are legal copies. Sure does help a company have users pay for their products.
