Beware of geeks bearing 'presence'

Bring it on

Nobody is thinking on both sides of the coin!

So we're thinking about using appropriate methods of communication, but we're assuming something the entire time. The person attempting communication is sitting in a cubicle with a phone and a computer right there.

Great, so my computer says "ooh, don't call Bob, he's in a big meeting, so send him a text message instead"

That's completely useless if I'm on my phone -since I now have to use 9 keys to bang out a message of any useful length in a language with 26 characters to pick from! Even more useless if I'm driving, or doing something that requires my attention.

Now I'm not trying to stop this technology from ever being the next killer app (Heck, you can even make it an all Microsoft solution, I'll still probably get it), I just want to make sure the same amount of work is devoted to the messeger as the messegee.

Something that can convert between vision and voice reliably and easily HAS to be developed.
