Sun struggling to find new business model
The truth is that Sun is trying very hard to find a new workable business model. They used to make fast unix servers. Like most companies (Xerox, Microsoft), they've continued to invest in other technologies looking for the next rising star product.
Java is very popular, but in sales $$$ it isn't a replacement for the old business. Not as far as I know, anyway: but Java is on millions of mobile phones now. (I guess they make money on that, but I guess it isn't much, as mobile phones are very cheap, and in a cutthroat market).
