Using IE isn't the problem...
...it's making your website IE only that's the problem. A significant number of Windows users have switched over to Firefox due to security reasons and all the improvements Firefox has made while IE stagnated. Shutting out potential customers seems really stupid to me.

And I'm a Mac user, and a big fan of Office. I want to take a look at the new interface (always very interested in interface design) so I know what I have to look forward to when the Mac version comes out (assuming it ever does). But now they've cut me out of the loop, again, losing the interest of a potential customer.

So yes, I am surprised that they can't code a website that would allow for the maximum number of potential customers. It seems like common sense to me, if you're hoping to make money as a business.

---does OO do anything better than Office?---

It doesn't really have to do anything better. It's free. If it's "good enough", then I'll keep the $300-$600 and spend it on beer and hookers.
