obvious answer?
There are no obvious answers to this dilemma. You can't force companies to simply stop outsourcing jobs without considering the horrible ramifications.

If American companies were no longer able to outsource jobs, they would be totally uncompetitive with the rest of the world's companies. Ultimately, the products and services of foreign companies would be so much cheaper than our own, that American products and services would be unaffordable. When companies no longer provide affordable products and services they die. When these companies die, they employ no one. Not a single living soul. Then you'll be asking yourself what happened to America's standard of living?

There are simply no easy or obvious answers to this problem. To remain competitive with the rest of the world's labor forces, we must be more educated and more productive than the rest of the world. When we lose that advantage (if we haven't already), we lose jobs. The consequences are horrible, but largely unavoidable, until the economic pendulum swings back into our direction. That won't happen until the rest of the world catches up to the living standards that we now enjoy (or we meet somewhere in the middle).

Will this be a painful process? You bet it will. I don't like it any more than anyone else. But if you think that any politician, whether Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Communist, Socialist, or anything else can resolve this with some new law, you are deluding yourself.
