We're going to have to export standards

A lot of people have died during the "American Century" due to companies lack of care for their employees. As a results, Americans have come to enjoy the protection of OSHA, EPA, Social Security, unemployment insurance, the minimum wage and a variety of other programs that contribute to our standard of living. While we can certainly argue about the levels and scope of these programs, I think overall we're better off for them.

If we really want to make a difference, simply putting up internal blocks to export jobs isn't going to cut it. The government should tie most favored nation status and such to nations that put in place the kinds of programs that we have here.

Will it make those countries more expensive to work in? Probably, but a true capitalist shouldn't complain about having to deal with a level playing field. If these foriegn labor forces are really "just as good" as Americans, then they ought to still be able to compete, even if their wages must increase to support the kind of protetions that we have come to enjoy in America.
