I sympathize.
And it's important for anyone who criticizes the H-1B program to remember that actions taken for the sake of fairness can do damage.

But on a policy level, where individuals are not considered, it's likely that there are enough potential job applicants in the US already to fill almost all of the positions allocated to H-1Bs.

Some of the people available to be hired may require training, some of them may be over age 40, say, but they could do a good job if companies were interested.

Concerning education, people in college who do not show highly exceptional aptitude are steered to the curricula most likely to make them employable. Engineering and the rest of tech have not been encouraging.

I'm glad that the program has made as much of a positive difference in your life as it has. I do empathize. But I also recognize that it's possible someone you will never meet has had a life disrupted or diminished as a result of your good fortune.

The fault is not that of individuals but of governments and large corporations. The H-1B program is gaming the system, as your experience shows. The solution should not be unkind, but it should result in companies paying people of any age what they are worth.
