The question isn't whether MS Office 2007 does things more efficiently than Office 97/2000. Hell, they've had 10 YEARS to work on it... it better damned well be better than the old systems.

The question IS whether those efficiencies justify the significant costs of licensing the new software and supporting your users. The answer to THAT is certainly dependent on your individual circumstances.

I personally don't see any reason whatsoever to do the "upgrade". We're using OpenOffice.org here with zero acquisition cost, miniscule training costs, and no loss of the functionality we use and need. To offset those advantages, Office 2007 would have to come with an MBA.
