They're not making the real point very well
What MS isn't explaining very well is that the new menu system does a better job at exposing the features that are relevant to what you're doing. Example: having "Page Setup" on the "File" menu never made sense. Now, it's a group of easily understood buttons on the Page Layout tab. The only reason you have to turn on full menus is that MS tried to do the "relevance" thing backwards: they started hiding menu options that (studies supposedly showed) noone used. Now they're doing it right - rearranging the menus completely to expose MORE functionality in fewer clicks.

Oh, and for those die-hard keyboard shortcut fanatics-- they all still work.
