I'm with you.
Stored procedures not only make it difficult to port applications,
they also make it a major pain in the ass to maintain them. I've
never seen a version control system that really worked well with
them, and it's almost impossible to move updates to production
without taking your application down for a short time if there
are major changes to stored procedures.
