commercial databases are still outside its reach
Eeven with big commercial databases you have to look what it is you are using them for. For mission critical, transaction based database stuff i wouldn't use mysql just yet. The thing is a lot of people do not need all the power Oracle is offering. My advise is to take a good long look at what it is you need to do with the database. I think in a lot of cases MySQL is excelent value for money where oracle would be an obvious case of overkill.

I just hope that by adding all this stuff to mysql they are not taking away the main advantage of mysql: speed and reliability. There will always be a place ofr the mysql product as it stands now and overdeveloping might actualy cause the company to overshoot their target and get nothing at all.
