A bit over stated but very true
MSDE does, in fact, offer several advantages over MySql. First and formost it supports stored procedures which MySql doesn't unless you want to use a beta version. Basically it will do everything theat the full blown sql server will do except for the number of processors it will run on. Also, MSDE based databases can be run just as well on an SQL Server 2000 installation so a site initially running on a free MSDE installation can be easily upgraded later if usage dictates.

Why not use text files? Well that question kind of shows a real lack of understanding about what MSDE is. Think of it as "SQL Server Lite". there are a huge number of applications were you are not dealing with terabytes of daya and yet need a real relational database where you can also build and call stored procedures. Text files? Come on.
