Yes, no, and sort of...
Dot net 1.2 was an Alpha that never really got off the ground before 2.0 was started. 2.0 is still being revised on a daily basis (MSDN versions for developers).

Windows Presentation Foundation *started* with dot net but has gone quite a distance away from it in many areas. To be honest I don't think even MS believes dot net is the future.

But when you put it all in a pail, the issue still remains that developing for Office has become much harder, MUCH more expensive, and most devlopers are scratching their heads concerning what tools to use to build a long term app or add in. Of course the fact VSTO is very, very limited doesn't help either. I won't even go into how Office VBA works (or doesn't) or that there is no way to secure your code due to a HUGE gaping security hole that dates back to Office 97 and has never been addressed.

sigh...
