I agree with your comments that office tools are a mess. Often functionality breaks with each new service pack so its not worth the hassle you get from your customers. We wrote our own word processor for our application and it never breaks.

I dont understand your comments on .NET at all. 2.0 has been out for quite a long time and there was never a 1.2 as you stated. Also the Windows Presentation Foundation is based off .NET and .NET is at the heart of Vista and SQL 2005.
