It would be nice.. If the XP's NTbackup didn't leak resources
like a stuck pig..

Yup.. XP pro + service pack 2..
All device drivers certified by M$. 1/2GB of memory..

Use XP Pro's "NTBackup" utility a large set of files ~3 GB's, ~20,000 files on a NTFS filesystem into a single file image on another disk & NTFS partition. Use the verify option, just to make sure the backup is intact.

Repeat 6 or 7 times.
..Use the same command line options.. overwrite the output file image.

The first pass will complete in about 15 minutes.
The eight itteration will take DAY's to complete.

Log out/in cycle
has no effect on reclaiming whatever NTBACKUP lost nor improves it's glacial completion time.

Reboot XP pro, does the trick..
NTbackup completion time back to 15 minutes..

XP is just another sorry ass excuse of an operating system,
..why should Vista break the mold?
