I presume Microsoft and Nokia are "teaming" to control a ".mob" domain? I'm not ICANN, but I would expect that this is the worst possible combination.
Microsoft have time and again abused their desktop OS monopoly. Nokia are approaching monopoly power in mobile handsets. Who in their right minds would give these two control of a "for profit" domain name registration service that falls entirely within the markets in which they hold phenomenal power?
I also really like the comment that "Microsoft will win in the corporate wireless market because of its dominance in the business computer market". Yeah, right. Microsoft's continued dominance of that market is based on dubious business practices and fleecing customers (e.g. Licencing 6).
In the context of this story, I presume the "business wireless market" is something like web services over mobile networks? In that regard, Microsoft is already a big player with their mobile, desktop and server platforms. But I don't seem MS offering any actual services - or do they plan to tempt the DoJ yet again by extending their monopoly into the mobile arena?
As a word of caution, every other service that MS has attempted to enter into by leveraging its Windows monopoly has not succeeded. TheySo tell me again why MS will "win" the corporate wireless market? - Posted by: Fred Fredrickson Posted on: 03/10/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
