Sucks used in title for flaming purposes?
anyway, yes, extra processes and shiny effects will do that, put more overhead on a system. A fancy new graphics card may put more heat in a system, requiring a big honky fan or a big passive heatsink, reducing the benefits of a quiet and/or cool space to components design. Tradeoofs. On a PC, dedicated power, no big deal. Newer hardware to run Vista at full effect is a big deal. On a laoptop, a big deal, . . so maybe the user modes down.

Bigger issue for me is that battery technology itself needs more research - for all types of batteries. Who doesn't want a battery that performs five, ten or more times longer than current ones and yet are easily and properly disposable?
