Maybe this is a good thing
1) SQL2000 is a very good product. I support MS SQL and Oracle 8i/9i, both have their quirks and both work quite well in the mixed environments I work in.

2) Synchronizing a major new OS release (Longhorn) and SQL200X or whatever goofy name they give it makes more sense from my viewpoint as one who supports the infrastructure. Who wants to do 2 major upgrades in 3 yrs vs 1 upgrade? Assuming, of course you are interested in upgrades.

3) Slammer was no problem for us since we understand how to manage firewall and we always shut down down port 135 at the firewall -- this is a product with few vulnerabilites and is easy to secure with good practices. It would be nice if MS would be more proactive in promoting good practices but I guess it is not sexy marketing nor does it create a buzz. However, such an action by MS would bring them some good will which they sorely need.

4) License Assurance from MS is not worth the paper it is written on. Charmin has more value and is more useful than MS SA licensing.
