It's nice to have
There are no OSS drivers that can come close to Nvidia's drivers. On that note, I support Nvidia. It would be nice to have some OSS drivers however, I don't see any chip manufacturing plants that are willing to do it for free.

Intel is 60+% Linux on the desktop. I don't see them not supporting it.

In the event they did stop supporting it, I'm sure the replacement would be much better.
