RE: One can only hope.....
>>...Microsoft's track record for fixing their OS
problems, doesn't bode well for Vista...<<

Understand first that I am not a Microsoft
apologist or supporter or enthusiast.
Microsoft's record since they announced their
'secure computing' initiative has been
impressive. The OS is now very stable and
security comes close to matching Linux so long as
all updates are done when available. I switched
to Linux in 1998 when Microsoft was a relative
mess, and have neither regretted the decision nor
am I inclined to come back to the Microsoft camp
now that they appear to be getting their house in
order. Since I have several machines running
Win98SE that are still performing well and are
relatively trouble free, I find the idea of 'End
of Life' troubling. I am also apprehensive over
a completely new and untried OS, since experience
has shown me that brand new carries with it a
whole new set of to often expensive and time
consuming requirements. Add to this the 'new'
set of problems which are sure to surface and you
have a recipe for an unpleasant experience which
I, for one, would just as soon avoid. While I
recognize that Linux is not the answer for
everyone at this time, particularly John Q.
Public, it continues for more than a handful of
reasons to make the best sense to me.
