Looking at this differently
After reading some of these posts I couldn't resist adding my two cents. First, this article is about gig checking, specifically drivers. Having wrote more than a few hardware drivers in my time I can say it's just as much a craft as it is a science. For those types that like to slap something together with a Vi$ual tool and make it look pretty, writing driver code is more of an excercise is making sure your code behave just as bad or as good as the target OS. Next, these big-checking tools are nothing more than a glorified lint which checks syntax, variable declaration, scope, pointers, etc. Simple enough since all software has this sort of bug and they can be easily found and fixed. Remember I said bug here. The problems that come out of the great northwest are not bugs per se, it's that the design of Windows is seriously flawed and they could bug check it all they want, but it's still flawed. You can patch and pray all you want and you'll only add to the rat's nest that already exists.

When you start with a simple desktop OS and try to make it all things to all users you will always have this problem. Now start bolting on a browser, media player, proprietary APIs, and enough useless features to start a cottage industry to fix them them all and you have the current state of Windows.

As far as Ha$ty la Vi$ta goes it's another bomb of eye candy. Can anyone tell me one good reason why I should get excited (serious) about this behemoth?

Do we even need another OS right now?
