It's common sense
Linux does develop faster, that's just common sense. When you don't have to profit off developing you can just release new version after new version. A proprietary software company can not do this. They have to maximize profits off the first version before moving to the next version all while balancing this with the competition. Like I said just common sense.

Linux is about year maybe 2 from being fully ready for the desktop. More and more big companies are porting thier software to Linux these days. Also drivers for Linux are comming out at the same time as the drivers for Windows for more and more hardware vendors too. These two case are the only thing holding Linux back from the home user.
