MySQL and Postgres (etc.) may only garner 1% of the market by cash flow, but I rather suspect that they account for more than that in terms of the sales that they cost Oracle, IBM, and Microsoft.

Measuring market share by $$$ always makes the expensive offerings look more popular than they really are. It's the reason that everyone thought IBM was the big dog in PCs during the 80s, even though Compaq had more unit sales.
