Linux shakeup in POS Market good
Linux does belong in the low end POS machine market. What does a cash register need a media player for--well i guess to play the ka-ching sound at a sale--Or why does it need extensive network/world wide web/capabilities? Frankly the old Gates prediction about 640K being good enough really applies to these machines.

Essentially the end of the days tally could simply be emailed to the home computer based on the most basic SMTP. The figures can be encrypted for secuirty purposes and thats it. The only other bells and whistles could require communication with a central database regarding inventory levels. But even that doesn't require a massive interface.
