Improvements?
Has anyone noticed a pattern here?

It appears to me that every time something is ?improved?, it not only doesn?t seem to work sufficiently better than its predecessor, but it becomes tougher to ?repair? or ?maintain?.

I have had opportunity to observe my wife?s ?XP Home? system with ?Office 2003 Pro? for some time now, and it is my assessment, that with ?ME? on my secondary system, with ?Office 97?, and ?2000 Pro (w/ SR2)? on my primary system, with ?Office 2000 Pro?, has cause me significantly less grief. I won?t go into the ?startup? and ?shutdown? time differences.

This brings up the question; why would anyone, reasonably, want to ?upgrade? from, or ?fix?, something that works.

In reference to another posting (Safe Mode for Word) regarding ?not possible to test every conceivable flaw?: What could possibly be more important to a computer than its Operating System?
Would it not be in everyone?s interest to release a secure and efficient OS? This could reduce the user?s frustration of trying to work around problems, while obviating the developer?s need to expend unnecessary resources to correct the initial conditions that caused or allowed these problems in the first place.

Hmmm? Always enough time to do it over, but not enough time to do it right the first time?

As far as Operating Systems are concerned, due to the fact that I have neither the time nor patience to re-learn using my computers, I am more than content to ?live with the dinosaurs?; the same dinosaurs that seem to be relatively immune to the current ?woes?.
