Oh, and re: the registry edits...
I don't know about NT4, but since at least 2000 there are still files that are only present in the Server SKUs (such as domain management)--as well as files that are only present in certain client SKUs (such as media center, parental controls in Vista). All the registry editing in the world won't change that.

Basically all the registry edits did was change what the OS thought it was. So that if an app asks, are you Workstation or Server, you could spoof that. Parts of the OS which handled number of network connections and performance prioritization would look at that as well and say, oh, I'm server, so do stuff differently. Back in the NT4 days, that may have been all the difference that there was between client and server, but it's cetainly not that way today.

And enough ripping on the registry. If you go mucking in it, it's your own fault. No different than mucking around in config files in other OSes.
