Missing the boat
Computers are slow to turn on, true. Solution? Do it only once and leave it on. That's why I give the edge to Linux as the underlying OS, due primarily to its superior stability.

Ease of use? That's the job of the software package that will manage the entertainment chores.

Done correctly, this software will hide the start, K-gear, Footprint or whathaveyou buttons from the user. Its menu will not show the usual PC laundry list of programs that have nothing to do with entertainment, but rather a few giant gui buttons to choose via remote contorl to start a movie, switch tv channels, view photos, listem to music from assorted sources, check the weather or whatnot.

Take a look at the Knoppmyth project listed in an earlier post to get a good view of what such an interface would entail.

Yes, Win-junkies, it isn't dissimilar from the MCE interface. It just doesn't come with the BSOD channel and the need for daily rebooting.
