Which is why if there is a show I enjoy (24... Star Trek...) I will wait till the season DVD's come out. I have cable for internet only. And at that it's part of my rent (long story...) sure I have cable TV but why watch it? I have been doing a non-scientific study and I am finding that an hour long program will gernerally be between 18-28 minutes long... the rest of the time are commercials. It's rather disheartening to watch TV now.

I hear that in parts of Europe it's illegal to play commercials during children's programs and that many of the countries will play an entire program then play the ads at the end. Seems they are doing fine, why can't we do the same?

The other thing I remember when cable first came out the intent was to allow the user to pay for content without advertisments. What happened?

As for using the Mac Mini as an entertainment appliance, some are successful and some aren't. I think it's a matter of each set-up / needs that will determine the success or failure of the Mac Mini or any PC type device not so much the device itself.
