The formfactor may be close (or at least concealable)
but if you follow the link in toadlife's post, you'll see that, as a media controller, the mini doesn't measure up. The hardware is inadequate as an all-in-one solution and the software isn't up to the task, either.
You're right about DRM and the general quality of today's media content hardly making the hassle, not to mention the cost, worthwhile. The cable companies are charging more every year for less content and even worse quality. This has got to stop somewhere.
I use my media pc mostly to transfer my old vynyl and cassettes to the hard drive for cleanup and preservation. There isn't much on TV worth recording that isn't riddled with commercials and heavily edited. And I pay a lot of money for this every month?
