The hardware is there,

and the software. Has nothing to do with PCs though. The next wave will be propietary HW with embedded OS and apps that may be stored locally or load from the net. The PC as we know it today will most likely not make it into the living room because by the time the HW/SW manufactures get around to creating a feasible solution it will be too late. They are already behind and may never catch up.

Yes Linux is probably beating M$ in the embedded OS space but there is a lot of very good competition. Still wide open with no clear winner yet.

It will be interesting to see what Cisco does with the recent Scientific-Atlanta (set-top box) aquisition. I personally would love to see a Cisco/Google partnership.

M$ will probably try to use the XBox platform as a path to the living room.
