Yes... but
Hi,

I agree with you except for the term should be abolished.

When people use the term (at least for myself), it means that a product requires minimum efforts of learning for how to use its basic functions.

Yes, it could also mean "what the user is used to".

A self-motivated person can learn almost everything without any problems.

Unfortunately, most people including myself are not so self-motivated and it's human's nature for resisting change unless it's absolutely necessary.

Therefore, people usually wait until last minute to learn something that is absolutely needed.

We can't change the fact - it's human's nature. We can only accept it and work on it.

In that sense, a "user-friendly" product could help user to start using the product with "what the user is used to" (e.g. graphic interfaces, wizards, speech recognition (without typing), etc.) vs. a user has to going through basic or professional training or learning new commands.

The bottom line is user-friendly has nothing to do with the product's functionalities. A product can be very powerful but would take a long time to learn it.

Example will be a professional camera, racing car, and hundreds of computing products including both software, hardware, and accessories.

Or a product can be relatively easy to learn but with limited powers, and example will be a point-and-shoot camera, regular automobiles, well designed (not just self-claimed) plug-and-play hardware, accessories, and some M$ software , and so on.

Ideally, we look forward to see products with both but that yet to happen.

I don't think the term should be abolished, instead, it should be consistently remined to thousands of engineers designing hardware and software products that don't forget about user is looking for what they used to.
