As a manager making various purchasing decisions on computing products, I found so many "technical" people are bound by their own personal preferences and preferences and beliefs instead of using a more "constructive" approach similar to you suggested.

I personally use many MS products and had to purchase and recommend them not because I am in favor of MS but base on the overall criterions, such as uer-friendly, compatability, post-purchase support, and so on.

Again, if there are enough viable alternatives (not just for engineers but for regular folks), MS won't be as of today. If anyone complained about MS, better use the time to come up a better solution. Up until then, nothing will change much.
