This how you fix the piracy problem
You first have to cosider the copyright laws. They're out of hand. To fix the problem you need to fix the laws. People don't respect copyright laws today. A vast majority commits copyright infringement with out any concern of the law. People tape shows and distribute them to friend and even charge money for the tape and effort doing this. People photocopy magazines and books regularly. People record off radio and TV with no intentions of buying the product. People trade and copy songs, software, recipes, poems, short stories, novels, videos, or what ever.

Now people always have done this and it's not going to change because a buck could be made. I mean performing a lip synch performance of major bands tune is a violation every kids done in thier childhood even to the point of winning prize money.

The plain a simple truth is that from childeren we are taught to share. That sharing is reiforced on daily basis through religion, social gathering, and basic community. Even ads on TV encourage people to share. Then along comes groups like the RIAA with touting the evils of sharing expecting them to change a life time of learned behavior over night to support the protecting of copyrights.

Make copyrights reasonable. Does DOS need to under copyright protection for 100 or more years? Does a song or movie need 100+ years. Make it 14 years. If you can't make you money in 14 years then tough. I think people would be more understandable with limited time copyright like 14 years and would refrain from violating copyrights.

Next be reasonable with prices. For example if you sell high to a small set of customer yet suffer from everyone pirating you product then may you should be selling it for less to larger market. Adobe photoshop gets pirated all the time because Adobe sell high to small market of grahpic artists but if they lowered the price and sold to everyone doing photography they'd have larger market and less piracy.

Then there are those in the spotlight flaunting thier riches. These riches and celeb status come from the people. The people can spot greed and they can take away that which was given. These people should be careful. It hasn't happened yet but people are getting fed up with it all. Just meantion hockey player wages in a pub and what the grumbling begin.
